The International Society of Environmental Geotechnology (ISEG) Webinar on “New Challenges and Opportunities in Environmental Geotechnology” was successfully held on July 13-14, 2021. A total of 24 invited speakers and near 300 participants from Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Oceania joined this event.
Prof. Bin Shi from Nanjing University, who is the President of ISEG, delivered a welcome speech in the opening ceremony. Prof. Shi briefly introduced the history and mission of ISEG. He pointed out that ISEG seeks to continue to promote scientific cooperation among countries, organizations and individuals on geoenvironmental issues. Prof. Shi then illustrated the motivation of holding the webinar. The world is facing new challenges in reaching carbon neutral targets, advancing sustainable infrastructure, solving pollution problems, controlling the pandemic etc., which, at the same time, offers “Environmental Geotechnology” new opportunities. Prof. Shi hopes that researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners can communicate to address these new challenges and opportunities as well as boost inspiration and collaborations through the webinar. Prof. Shi then thanks the organizing committee and the secretariat for the hardwork in organization. He also thanks all the invited speakers and guests for participation.
